FAQ

What can I donate? We accept and process any device! As long as it runs on electricity, we take it! Note that some donations may carry a Fair Market Value too low to be appraised. If your donation falls under this category, we will notify you by email. We also accept PCs, keyboards, and cables!

Can I donate a broken or cracked device? For sure! We accept devices in all conditions. We partner with sustainable e-recycling programs to ensure your device doesn't end up in a landfill!

Are donations tax deductible?Short answer...Yes! Remember to fill out a contact card when you donate at the library and we will email you a tax-deductible receipt! However, please consult a tax professional for questions about your return. Our parent non-profit's EIN is 87-1756045.

Do I need to factory reset my device?Yes! We highly recommend that all donors factory reset their devices before donating. However, we will also reset and wipe all devices before sending them to students. We never sell data.

What is your data policy? All prospective donors are encouraged to wipe their data before donating. However, we will make every effort to find and remove all personal data from each device we collect before recycling or sending them to students. We will utilize the DOD 5220.22-M data wiping algorithm, the industry standard. TEP is not responsible for any data on the device after we receive it. We take data protection very seriously and will update our guidelines as we see fit to accommodate for any industry innovations. We do not, under any circumstance, sell data.

What happens if I lost my charger? You can still donate! However, including a charger will significantly increase the fair market value of your donation, leading to a larger tax deduction.
